Loughborough Dynamo returned to winning ways in the preliminary round of the Doodson's Sports League Cup with a 2-0 victory over fellow Division One South club Rainworth Miners Welfare.

Dynamo were missing ten of the first team squad, and featured new signings Anthony Griffiths Junior, Ash Way and Sam Woods.

Rainworth's manager Kevin Gee resigned last week, so caretaker manager Scott Rickards, who was also a substitute, oversaw proceedings for the visitors.

On a wet night in front of a sparse crowd, and with the return of the Champions League on television, Dynamo deserved their win. The first thirty-five minutes saw play even teritorially, the best chance falling to Bruno Holden after a short back pass failed to reach Rainworth's goalkeeper James Martin, but put his shot wide while stretching for the ball.

The match changed after thirty-seven minutes. Ash Way whipped in a free kick and the Dynamo keeper out jumped Martin to score off the crossbar, to send Dynamo into the halftime interval with a one goal lead.

Dynamo extended their lead after fifty-three minutes. Martin turned a Way free kick over the bar, and from the resulting corner Dan Blair forced the ball home at the near post.

In the sixty-fourth minute the ball richoted around the edge of the Dynamo penalty area, the visitors Callum Lloyd driving the ball over the bar for the visitors last real opportunity.

Dynamo could have extended their lead. In the seventieth minute a Way corner sent in another corner at pace. Dynamo's Joe Pheasant just beat Lloyd to the ball but the ball came back off the underside of the bar.

The last action of the game saw awarded a penalty in the eighty-ninth minute after Rainworth captain fouled Holden, but Matt Langham put the penalty wide.
