In the Preliminary Round of the Evo-Stik League's own cup, the Doodson Sports Cup, Loughborough Dynamo were 4-2 victors over Rainworth Miners Welfare.

A much changed Dynamo side, including new signing and former Dynamo captain Alvin Jarvis, opened the scoring in the ninth minute through Nathan Watson in the first serious attack of the game from either side, and had a good chance to double their lead in the twenty-first minute, Brad Munn blazing a fine shot across the goal and just wide, but the second goal came a minute later. Rob Norris received the ball and drove a fine shot into the top corner of the goal past goalkeeper Neil West.

Rainworth went straight to Dynamo's end from the restart and a right wing centre was flicked on by Rainworth captain Craig Mitchell to Robert Gill, who saw his goalbound header diverted wide for a corner by Jack Green.

Dynamo increased their lead in the twenty-seventh minute, a good run by Munn set up Watson to fire home.

A minute later Dynamo goalkeeper Alex Pycock saw a shot run away from him, Gill following up to drive home.

Dynamo came back to dominate the rest of the half without adding to their goal tally, going into half time with a 3-1 advantage, and started the second forty-five minutes in a similar dominate fashion. Watson scored his hat trick in the fifty-fourth minute, a fine run and centre by Dean Gent saw Watson collect the ball in the centre of the area and fire home.

A flurry of substitutions from both sides shortly followed, but this did not halt Dynamo's domination of the game.

A superb run in the seventy-second minute saw substitute Christopher Hewitt slot home to reduce Dynamo's lead.

Dynamo carried on their domination, substitute Matt Langham miscuing a shot from a good position a minute later.

Former Dynamo player Tristram Whitman then missed a great opportunity for Rainworth, blazing over the home bar when unmarked.

This was the final threat to Dynamo in the game, who could have extended their lead. Wood hit a post and Langham had a chip cleared off the goal line, before Dynamo ran out worthy 4-2 winners.
