Loughborough Dynamo earned a place in this season’s Loughborough Charity Cup Final with a 2-0 victory over Barrow Town at the Nanpantan Sports Ground on Tuesday night.

Barrow were the first to threaten, breaking at pace in the fourth minute and Luke Plummer drew a save from Dynamo goalkeeper Jake McCormack which rebounded to Mitch Turner, who put his shot over the bar. Two minutes later Barrow centreback Chris Davies had a free header from a free kick, but this also went over Dynamo’s bar.

Dynamo’s first goal effort saw Leandro Browne cut in from the left wing and his shot draw a good save from Barrow goalkeeper Scott Werrad. This was quickly followed by a good Dynamo move between Scott Meer and Oliver Modeste, setting up Niall Dawkins who shot wide.

Modeste then broke through the Barrow defence, Werrad doing well in blocking his shot. Barrow came back to threaten the Dynamo goal and Jordon Lever put in a good shot which was well held by McCormack.

The match then settled into an even balance before Dynamo started to gain the upper hand as halftime approached. The thirty-eighth minute saw Browne cut in from the left wing once again and fired just wide. Two minutes later Dynamo took the lead, when captain Rob Norris’s inswinging free kick from outside the Barrow penalty area eluded everyone and beating Werrad.

A minute before halftime Dawkins broke clear of the Barrow defence and went one on one with Werrad, but put his shot wide.
Two minutes after the restart a right wing centre found Barrow’s Lloyd Tapper in a good position, but he put his header wide. Dynamo then started applying pressure to the visitors defence and a good Dynamo move involving Will Dennis and Norris set up Dawkins, who saw his deflected shot saved by Werrad.

Dynamo doubled their lead in the fifty-third minute when Barrow’s central defenders saw the ball run loose from them, for Browne to go clear, round Werrad and slot the ball home. The home side were now in the driving seat, and a good move involving Carl Sibson, Dawkins and Norris saw Werrad make a fine save in turning the ball onto the bar and away for a corner from Norris’s shot.

Norris had another good effort in the sixty-first minute when he picked up substitute Kieron Davies’s right wing centre, turned and shot, but the ball went straight at Werrad. Back came Barrow, and Plummer blazed a shot across the face of Dynamo goal, eluding any other Barrow forward. Dawkins and Norris were then involved yet again, this time the Dynamo captain fired just wide.
Dynamo came close to putting the tie out of Barrow’s reach in the seventy-sixth minute after Davies and Norris put Dennis through, but the right back over ran the ball and Werrad tidied it up.

Both sides came close to scoring in the final stages. The eightieth minute saw Tapper’s deflect shot spin over both McCormack and the Dynamo bar. Three minutes later Barrow had the ball in the net following a corner, but referee Nick Hopton ruled the goal out for a foul on McCormack. The final goal effort of the game came when Sam Leggit saw his shot deflected for corner, Dynamo being 2-0 winners and face Shepshed Dynamo in the final of the competition.
