Our match report from Dynamo’s first league game of the season.

Loughborough Dynamo’s disappointing start to the season continued into the league as they lost 1-0 at home to Boldmere St Michael’s.

It was Boldmere’s first ever game in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division and they are unlikely to play many more in hotter conditions with the mercury reaching 32 degrees Celsius at kick off.

The severe heat did impact the way the game was played which resulted in a low tempo and few chances.

The first ten minutes were relatively even, with Dynamo just about edging it, as James Tague came closest to scoring but his header from a cross went just wide.

However, there were three key incidents between minutes ten and 21 that changed the game.

Just ten minutes in, Dynamo left back Charlie Holliday beat his man down the left, got to the byline and delivered a cross into the box.

However, after Holliday delivered the cross, the Boldmere defender slid in late with a challenge that left the Dynamo man with a suspected broken ankle and he had to be replaced by Jake Finnerty.

Dynamo tried to push on but just four minutes later they were hit on a counter attack that resulted in Boldmere striker Alex McSkeane beating his man down the left before cutting into the box and his shot beat the keeper to make it 1-0 to Boldmere.

Dynamo didn’t learn their lesson and in the 21st minute Alex McSkeane hit them on the counter attack again. This time Jake Finnerty, who had only been on the pitch 11 minutes, fouled him to prevent him bursting into the box. The referee judged that Finnerty was the last man and so sent him off leaving Dynamo with just ten men.

After that Dynamo found it extremely difficult in the intense heat to get back into the game and Boldmere controlled the game well and Dynamo struggled to create any chances.

It will be a concern to Dynamo that they are two games into the new season and are yet to have a shot on target but after the game Loughborough Dynamo Head Coach Brad Munn was keen to stress the positives from the two games so far and stressed that he was confident that things would improve starting with Tuesday nights game away at Daventry.
