Our take on our 2-2 draw with Daventry

Loughborough Dynamo took the lead twice against Daventry Town but only came away with a point.

The game finished 2-2 and was heavily affected by the rain which led to Daventry’s bizarre equaliser late on in the game.

Despite starting the game slowly, Daventry did have the ball in the back of the net after just six minutes but the linesman has his flag up for offside.

Dynamo were in control and dominated the majority of the first half. And on the 22nd minute they were ahead.

Ollie Clark did well on the right hand side to get a cross in towards the back post and Kevin Bastos was there to head the ball in and make it 1-0.

However, as the first half wore on, Daventry grew into the game. And just as we entered into injury time, a Daventry cross was blocked in the box by a Dynamo arm and the referee gave a penalty.

Jack Bowen stepped up to take the penalty for Daventry and he scored to send both teams in level at 1-1.

In the second half, there was a lot of action at both ends as both teams were desperate for a win.

The Moes could have scored a couple of times but couldn’t covert their opportunities.

First, Kevin Bastos had a tap in from five yards that was put over the bar before an error from the keeper in picking up a back pass saw Dynamo have an indirect free kick in the Daventry penalty area.

The free kick was taken and the ball bounced back off the post and the rebound fell to a Dynamo player but the shot hit the keeper and the ball eventually came away.

But Dynamo did eventually retake the lead. The Daventry keeper came out and collided with Callum Cocks in the penalty area and the ball fell to Evan Garnett to tap home and score his first goal in three years to make it 2-1.

Dynamo looked fairly comfortable after going ahead but there was nothing anyone could do about the Daventry equaliser.

A back pass to the keeper from Luke McGinnell bobbled awkwardly just in front of goalkeeper Lewis King and it went over his foot and into the Dynamo goal to make it 2-2.

Loughborough Dynamo team: King, Cocks, Whitehead, McGinnell, Finnerty, Young, Ogunmekan (Webster 70’), Clark, Norris (Sackey-Mensah 90’), Bastos, Bamfo (Garnett 52’).
