Loughborough Dynamo went top of the Northern Premier League Midlands Division with a 4-2 win at home to Gresley.
Despite going behind, two late first half goals put The Moes in front before an injury time winner guaranteed them victory for the second week in a row.
The result sees Loughborough finish October with a 100% record and fans have to cast their minds back to August 22 for the last time Dynamo lost in the league.
After the game, fans and neutrals alike came away saying the game was one of the best they had seen all season.
And both sides had chances within the first sixty seconds of the game with both goalkeepers having to be called into action.
Despite Gresley’s position in the league table, they had been on a good run of form since their managerial change and had put some good results together.
And for much of the first half they were the better team. They created a number of chances and looked threatening.
Dynamo struggled to create many clear cut chances but came closest when Evan Garnett’s hooked effort was cleared off the line.
But when Gresley did take the lead it was gifted to them due to poor defensive concentration. The Dynamo defence had numerous chances to clear the ball and didn’t and as Lewis King came out to clear the ball he took out the attacker and the referee gave a penalty.
Jack Ekins-Tyson stepped up to score the penalty and made it 1-0.
Loughborough struggled after going behind and for a while looked like they needed the half time break.
But with one minute to go until the interval a bit of brilliance from George Ball put The Moes level. A corner came to Ball on the edge of the area and he found the top corner with a shot to make it 1-1.
The goal really lifted the home side and just sixty seconds later they were in front. A long ball forward put the Gresley defence under pressure and was pounced on by Garnett who rounded the keeper and made it 2-1.
The second half saw another three goals being scored but in reality it should have been a lot more.
Just minutes into the second half, Evan Garnett had a gilt-edge opportunity to score as the ball came to him in the box but he couldn’t get the contact he desired and the ball went wide.
For a while it looked like that miss might be costly as soon after Gresley equalised. The away side got the ball in the box and Dynamo couldn’t clear and after a goal mouth scramble the ball was turned home by James Sleigh.
As the game wore down it looked like both teams would share a point apiece. Gresley hit the bar twice while Dynamo had a number of shots saved by the Gresley keeper.
But for the second week in a row, a stoppage time winner saved Dynamo. Luke White had a pot shot from the edge of the box that was spilled by the keeper and Evan Garnett scored the rebound.
As time wore down Rio Molyneaux went on a counter attacking run and burst into the box and was brought down. The referee gave a penalty and Evan Garnett scored with the last kick of the game to get his hat trick and seal the 4-2 win.
