Our report from a crazy game on Sunday

Three goals in eight minutes helped Loughborough Dynamo complete a dramatic turnaround at Cambridge City.

Despite going two goals down in the first 15 minutes and then 3-1 down shortly after half time, Dynamo kept their play off push alive with a late turnaround.

Evan Garnett gave the Moes hope in the 82nd minute but two goals in two minutes from substitute George Ball just five minutes later completed the turnaround.

The result means Loughborough have opened up a three point gap to sixth place and still have a number of games in hand on the teams around them.

The trip down to Cambridgeshire was one of the longest of the season for Loughborough and it felt like it was going to be a very long afternoon when they found themselves two goals down in the first 17 minutes.

Both goals were scored by Brad Rolt who made the most of a goalmouth scramble at a corner before ghosting into the six yard box to turn home a cross from the left just four minutes later to give the hosts a two goal advantage.

Despite the poor start, Dynamo were on top for most of the first half and controlled possession and looked the more threatening of the two teams.

And eight minutes before half time, they gave themselves hope when a long ball over the top was collected by Rio Molyneaux who then rounded the keeper and finished well from a tight angle.

Dynamo came out for the second half with the belief that they could salvage something from the game. But their job was made a lot harder just six minutes after the restart when a catalogue of defensive errors allowed Kyle Boyce to place a low finish into the net.

At this point it looked like the game was over but Dynamo kept pushing and pushing to no avail. Manager Tom Hayes turned to his bench and brought on Connor Furey and George Ball for the final half an hour to try and change the game.

And while they massively improved things, with time ticking down it looked like Loughborough were going to fall to defeat.

But with just eight minutes to go, Evan Garnett gave his team hope with his sixteenth goal of the season in all competitions.

Cambridge had only won one of their last eight league games and so were desperate to hold on but they could not withstand the late Dynamo surge that led to the equalising and winning goals.

Both George Ball’s goals were remarkably similar finding the same bottom corner within two minutes of each other and once Loughborough had gone ahead they saw the game out well and the result gives them a massive boost as they host second place Harborough Town on Wednesday.
