Our take on Saturday’s defeat

Three goals in eight minutes consigned Loughborough Dynamo to a disappointing defeat away at Spalding United.

Despite initially starting the game well, things fell apart for The Moes eleven minutes in when they conceded three goals in eight minutes.

Despite trying to fight back and force their way back into the game, the three goal lead was unassailable and goals from Connor Furey and Evan Garnett with another Spalding goal sandwiched in between saw the game finish 4-2.

There was a lot of attention on this game in the build up as second took on fourth with players and supporters on both sides knowing this could easily be a play off game in just over two months time.

And it was Loughborough who arguably had the better chance in the first ten minutes. Loughborough manager Tom Hayes chose to name winger Cam Moore in the starting line up and he looked particularly lively and set Rio Molyneaux free but his shot went over the bar. Moore himself also had a curling effort go just wide of the far post.

But eleven minutes in some good work down the right saw a low cross come into the six yard box and Jordan Graham turned the ball home from close range expertly to give his side the lead.

Just five minutes later, Spalding got down their right wing again and another cross came in and left back Sam Warburton ghosted in at the back post to have a tap in.

And three minutes later the game was effectively over when Tyler Winters rose highest at a set piece and headed home to make it 3-0.

After the third goal, the game really changed and the tempo slowed as Spalding were happy to hold on to what they had and make Dynamo chase the game.

In the second half, Dynamo played slightly better but struggled to really create any clear cut chances.

With 20 minutes to go, Dynamo had a way back into the game when Connor Furey received the ball in the box and slotted home past the Spalding keeper.

However, instead of using the momentum of the goal to push on they found themselves on the defensive again.

Just seven minutes after getting a goal back, Spalding made it four when Sam Warburton dribbled through the Dynamo defence like it wasn’t there and made it 4-1.

Dynamo did go on to win a penalty that was converted by Evan Garnett for his 22nd goal of the season but it was too little too late as they fell to a 4-2 defeat.

Next week they welcome play off chasing Quorn to the Newton Fallowell Stadium in what could be a season defining local derby for both teams.
