Dynamo progress in the FA Trophy after winning away at Long Eaton

Loughborough Dynamo progressed through to the third qualifying round of the Isuzu FA Trophy by winning away at Long Eaton.

Despite the game finishing 0-0 after 90 minutes, Loughborough progressed after winning 4-2 in a penalty shoot out.

The win means that it is the first time in 8 years that Loughborough have won two games in the FA Trophy.

Long Eaton had started the season well and so Loughborough knew it would be a tricky game. In truth it was a low quality game with few clear cut chances for either side.

Dynamo had a good chance to take the lead after just 20 minutes when Kevin Bastos was played through on goal but couldn’t convert the opportunity.

Just 10 minutes later Ogunmekan went on a great solo run into the Long Eaton box but the quality of the shot wasn’t there and the keeper easily gathered it.

Despite these two chances, Dynamo were fortunate not to go into half time behind as Lewis King had to pull off a spectacular save to keep a Long Eaton Free kick out when they used a routine that came from the training ground.

Lewis King was called into action early into the second half again as he had another free kick to stop which he did successfully.

Loughborough grew into the second half and started to dominate as Kevin Bastos clicked into gear. The Long Eaton defence struggled to contain him and ended up making a series of fouls to bring him down.

The last of these saw Jamie Walker sent off for Long Eaton with just 10 minutes to go for a second bookable offence.

However, Dynamo couldn’t make their one man advantage count and in fact had to dig deep and defend hard in order not to lose the game in the last 10 minute but they saw it out and it went to penalties.

In the penalty shoot out, Dynamo took an early lead as Kevin Bastos scored and Orlando-Young blazed his penalty over the bar.

Things got even better for Dynamo as Rob Norris then stepped up and scored his penalty before Lewis King was able to stop the second Long Eaton penalty by diving to his right.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Dynamo as Luke Thorogood then missed his penalty before Kameron Campbell made it 2-1.

But James Tague stepped up and scored Dynamo’s next penalty and so did James Taylor for Long Eaton to make it 3-2.

As Josh Waldram made the walk from the half way line he knew that Dynamo would win if he scored. His penalty found the corner and Dynamo won 4-2.
