Loughborough Dynamo’s FA Trophy cup run came to an end as they fell to a 1-2 defeat at home to Worksop Town.
In the build up to the game, fans were encouraged to bring food with them that could be donated to a local Loughborough foodbank and Dynamo were delighted with the response and that over 25 bags of food had been donated.
The game got off to a very fast start and Worksop town should have been ahead in the first minute. A ball came across the Dynamo box and beat the last defender and goalkeeper Lewis King and Worksop attacker Luke Hall found himself all alone with an open goal, but his shot went high over the bar.
Worksop were punished for that early miss just one minute later as Dynamo took an early lead by pouncing on defensive uncertainty. Striker James Tague pressed a Worksop defender well and then managed to dispossess the Worksop goalkeeper leaving him with an easy tap in to make it 1-0 to Loughborough.
The game settled down considerably after the drama of the first two minutes and for a quarter of an hour both sides were evenly matched. Kevin Bastos came closest to doubling Dynamo’s lead after beating two players down the left-hand side and cutting into the box, but his shot went over the bar.
Before this game, Worksop Town had won their last nine in a row and after a quarter of an hour they really clicked into gear and dominated the game.
It was all one-way traffic from this point onwards and Worksop Town were back level just after the half hour mark. A chipped ball over the top from the edge of the box split the Dynamo defence and striker Liam Hardy was able to acrobatically finish past Dynamo goalkeeper Lewis King to make it 1-1.
And just seven minutes later Worksop were ahead. Left back Josh Wilde found himself in acres of space on the edge of the box and unleashed a powerful shot that found the top corner to put Worksop 1-2 ahead.
Neither side managed to find another goal in the second half although Worksop came close with several goalmouth scrambles, but Dynamo dug in well and there were a number of bodies back to prevent the ball crossing the line.
Dynamo offered very little in the second half in terms of a comeback until the last ten minutes and even then, they didn’t do much to fill their supporters with any real hope.
With no county cup in Leicestershire this year, yesterday’s game marks the end of any cup involvement for Loughborough Dynamo this year but they will still be hopeful of a good season in the league.
