Cleethorpes Town 1-1 Loughborough Dynamo

Cleethorpes Town and Loughborough Dynamo played out a 1-1 draw in the Emirates FA Cup extra preliminary round.

A goal on the hour mark from Chad Timson put Dynamo ahead before Cleethorpes equalised with a goal from Jon Oglesby.

The result means that there will be a replay in Loughborough on Tuesday 8th August with the winner setting up a tie at Stocksbridge Park Steels on Saturday 19th August.

Cleethorpes have never lost in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup and they started the stronger of the two sides and played some nice passing football. In particular, the Cleethorpes number nine Curtise Bateson was lively and when he went through one-on-one early on he should have done better than blaze his shot over the bar. Just minutes later Bateson got another shot off from a short corner routine that could only hit the side netting.

Dynamo did have chances of their own in the first half. A brilliant ball was played through to Evan Garnett and when he rounded the keeper had an open goal in front of him but his touch forced him too far wide and his shot found the side netting.

With Cleethorpes having never lost in this round and Dynamo having only exited at this stage of the competition twice in the last eighteen years, both sides came out in the second half eager to grab a goal and it was end-to-end.

Dynamo did live life on the edge a little bit with Cleethorpes hitting the woodwork twice and Lewis King making a couple of good saves and it didn’t look like it would be Cleethorpes day.

And on the hour mark, Dynamo were ahead as Chad Timson scored his first goal for a club. The ball was played out to the right and the right wing-back ran onto it and drove into the box and placed the ball in the far corner out of the reach of the Cleethorpes keeper.

But Cleethorpes weren’t going to take defeat lying down and with twelve minutes to go Jon Oglesby levelled the game and ensured that the two teams would meet again on Tuesday in a replay.
