Post match we spoke to the manager

Loughborough Dynamo started 2024 with a 1-1 draw at home to local rivals Shepshed Dynamo.

The Moes got off to a slow start when Zayn Hakeem opened the scoring for the visitors after just ten minutes but David Chapman equalised just before half time to send both teams home with a point.

After the game we spoke to Loughborough Dynamo manager Tom Hayes about the game and this is what he had to say.

Question: So Tom, a 1-1 derby day draw at home to Shepshed Dynamo, what are your thoughts on the game?

Tom: "I'm a bit gutted to be honest. We started off poorly in the first 20 minutes and we never really got going and could have been two or three down. But then we dominated the rest of the first half and could have been three one up at half time. Again second half I think we probably edged it but we were just lacking the finish touch. We've got a bit of a goal drought at the minute and we are not as clinical as we were five or six weeks ago but again that potentially correlates with us having three weeks off which was a disaster when we were on such a great run - and we are still doing well - but when we were winning pretty much every single game maybe it has affected us a bit.

"But we haven't lost today, I've said it loads of times that when we don't win it does feel like we've lost because we have developed such a winning mentality within the group."

Question: We seemed to struggle a little bit in the midfield at times today, not winning second balls and struggling to string some passes together. Do you agree?

Tom: "I think at times that was true today but we also had our fair share of the midfield battle. I don't think there was one team that dominated the midfield, I think there were patches where they were better than us then we were better than them and then they got on top again and then we were again and that was how the whole game went today."

Question: We're looking at a January where including today we've got eight games playing every weekend and nearly every midweek. How big of an impact will this month have on our season?

Tom: "It's vital because once we've played eight more games there won't be too many left. It's a month that is obviously going to require a whole squad rather than just a set eleven and we have got the squad to do it. We have got a couple of students who are currently back at home miles away from here for Christmas but they will be back in about a week which will again strengthen the squad and we will be looking to use the whole squad as opposed to just a set eleven or twelve."
