Today’s game against Skegness marks the start of Loughborough Dynamo’s competitive season.
After putting the squad through their paces during a five week pre season, Brad Munn and his team are ready to get going properly.
However, league action will have to wait as today sees the team in FA Cup action. This year the Moes enter the competition in the Extra Preliminary Round, six rounds earlier than teams in League One and Two.
With today’s game being an FA Cup fixture, a draw after 90 minutes will result in a replay that will be played at the Newton Fallowell Stadium in Loughborough sometime in the next week (TBC if necessary).
Last year, Dynamo entered the competition in the Preliminary Round but fell at the first hurdle as they lost 3-1 away at Cleethorpes Town. They will be hoping to avoid a repeat of that this year as they attempt to go on a bit of a cup run.
In contrast, Skegness won their first game in the FA Cup last year. They won 1-0 away at Pinchbeck in the Extra Preliminary Round before losing away at Anstey in the next round.
Skegness have already played 2 competitive games in the league this season but have had a difficult start. The Step Five side lost 4-0 on the opening day away at Kimberley Miners Welfare FC before losing 3-2 at home to Sleaford Town in midweek.
Skegness manager Nathan Collins also resigned on Thursday morning and so today’s game will be the first one in charge for Chris Rawlinson who took over on Thursday.
The Loughborough Dynamo first team has had a bit of an overhaul over the summer with the amount of new signings creeping up into double figures. Goalkeepers Lewis King and Byron Musgrove, defenders Charlie Holliday, Ed Cook, Nathan Whitehead and Callum Cocks, midfielders Luke Thorogood, Mason Coy and Josh Waldram, and strikers Isaac Stones and Aaron Cole join the squad.
There will be full match updates on our Twitter account @lborodynamofc from 2pm today as we make the trip to the seaside for today’s fixture.
Come on Dynamo!!!!!!!
